The Output AOV node connects to the Output AOV Group node which is then connected to the Output AOVs pin on a Render Target node (figure 1). The Output AOV node is used to assemble results of the AOVs generated using the Render AOV node or other Output AOV nodes located in the Output AOV category.

Multiple layers can be added via the Add Layer button. Layers can be removed with the Remove Layer button. When a layer is added, a new input pin will appear to the left of the current layer pin(s). Each set of Output AOV nodes are available for viewing in the Render Viewport when they are connected together using the Output AOV Group node (figure 2)

NOTE

Starting with OctaneRender v2026, AOVs nodes located in the traditional Render AOVs category do not need to be generated to match a corresponding Render AOV node used in the Output AOV compositing network. Nodes in the Output AOV category (specifically the Render AOV node) can now generate the underlying AOVs used for compositing (figure 2). This means that the process of creating AOVs located in the traditional Render AOVs category can be skipped entirely and all AOV passes can be generated by the Output AOV nodes alone.
