OctaneRender® uses vertex colors or other vertex attributes while rendering materials. OctaneRender loads and interpolates both real numbers and colors over the scene's triangles and can send them to the OSL shaders. This node differs from the Greyscale Vertex Attribute node by reading data primarily from vertex paint data as opposed to vertex weight or group data. Other practical uses would be to paint grayscale onto a surface in a DCC application and use that Color Attribute as a mask for a Mix material (figure 1).

Color Vertex Attribute Parameters

The only available parameter is Name. This parameter must correspond to the name of a vertex paint attribute specified in a DCC application.
