OctaneRender® now supports MaterialX natively (figure 1). MaterialX is a platform-independent  open standard developed by Industial Light & Magic. It is a set of computer graphics standards representing material and look-development content that can be shared across multiple DCC applications and render engines. The MaterialX nodes can be accessed from the Node Graph Editor window (figure 1). For more information refer to the detailed documentation found on Materialx.org


OctaneRender broadens MaterialX native support to include PBR nodes for creating custom layered materials in addition to EDF nodes introduced by the first 2027.1 alpha release. Layers can be freely mixed, layered and additively blended in any order to form complex materials. In addition, BSDF results can also be modulated by upstream texture graphs. Additionaly, MatrialX PBR node graphs can be imported from external MaterialX and USD files.
