The OctaneRender® Live Database (LiveDB) is an online resource for pre-made Octane materials and is accessible with each copy of Octane. This is a great resource for materials, but also a great way to learn how to build your own Octane materials. Local DB is a database stored locally on your computer. It will appear in the list below LiveDB as seen in the image below.

Live Database

Using LiveDB & LocalDB as a Materials Interchange

Use these databases as materials interchanges between the OctaneRender for Cinema 4D plugin and Octane Standalone, as well as other Octane DCCs, such as Blender, Maya and so on. In most cases, the materials will load in and be immediately useful.

Uploading OctaneRender for Cinema 4D materials to Local/LiveDB

You will need to use Octane Standalone to upload materials to the LiveDB. To do this, export the scene to an ORBX file and open the scene in Octane Standalone, as described here.

Uploading Octane Materials from Octane Standalone to Local/LiveDB

Select the material node in the scene editor. Make sure ALL of the connected nodes are also selected, otherwise those nodes will not be included. Choose the material node, right-click and choose Save... from the popup menu. Name the material and choose the desired category for Local/LiveDB.

Store Materials to Live/Local DB

The Location menu allows you to choose an Octane Package (.orbx) or the LocalDB as the destination. Once this is done, materials (and ORBX files in the LiveDB) will be accessible to any Octane DCC plugin.
