There are several ways to create materials in OctaneRender®:


    • Via the Live Viewer
    • Via the Cinema 4D Material Manager
    • Via the Octane Node Editor

Go to Live Viewer > Materials and pick the material type from the menu list. A material thumbnail will appear in Cinema 4D's material editor window. Double-click on it to get to the Material Editor.

The second method is to use the Cinema 4D Material Manager. From this manager you can create a material from Create > Extensions > C4Doctane > Octane Material.

The third method is to use the Octane Node Editor. To do this, go to Live Viewer > Materials menu in the Live Viewer window and select Octane Node Editor.

In the Node Editor, drag and drop an Octane Material button on the left menu to the work area of the editor. Select the Node and from the Basic tab on the right side and set the Material type from the Material type section. More on the Node Editor here.

Creating Shortcuts for materials

You can create shortcuts for materials, effectively creating materials from just a single click, but you need to set up the short cuts beforehand. To do this, open the Command Manager Window > Customization > Customize Palettes... or (SHIFT + F12). The Command Manager will be displayed .

In the Command Manager, click on New Palette button and then type "Octane" in the Name filter field. All of the available items named with "Octane" will immediately appear in the list. Drag and drop the Octane materials the palette you created. If you do not want to make a palette, you can drag and drop the icon of the relevant material directly into the interface of Cinema 4D. You will need to choose "Save as Startup Layout" from the "+" item in the Layouts menu to keep your changes.
