Hardware and Software Requirements

HardwareAny physical device present in a computer system. A Nvidia GPU is a required hardware device for using the Octane Render engine. requirements

OctaneRender™ requires a NVIDIA CUDA-enabled video card. OctaneRender™ runs on Fermi (e.g. GTX 480, GTX 580, GTX 590), Kepler (e.g. GTX 680, GTX 690) GPUs, Maxwell (GTX 7xx, GTX8xx) GPUs, and the high-end GTX Titans. It also supports older CUDA enabled consumer video cards (Nvidia GeForce GT 400 series and up) but it will be subject to memory size and speed limitations on those cards. Kepler GPUs allow a higher texture limit (256 compared to 128 on Fermi) and are also more power efficient and more silent than Fermi cards. GPUs from the GeForce line are usually higher clocked and render faster than the more expensive Quadro and Tesla GPUs. GeForce cards are fast and cost effective, but have less VRAM than Quadro and Tesla cards. The official list of Nvidia CUDA-enabled products is located here.

DriversFiles that allow hardware devices to communicate with an operating system. In the case of Octane, the latest Nvidia drivers should be used.

OctaneRender™ v3 requires an Nvidia driver supporting at least CUDA 7.5. On Windows and Linux, a recent enough Nvidia driver is necessary.

For MacOS versions, use the most suitable driver released from the Nvidia website.

Failure to install these driver versions may result in stability problems. The OctaneRender™ Team cannot provide support to users of different driver versions.

Internet Access

Except for the demo versions, all OctaneRender™ editions require authentication with its designated license key and initially requires Internet access to launch. Upon launching OctaneRender™ v3 , Octane will request your OTOY credentials and will attempt to retrieve an available license from the OctaneLive server.

Software Requirements

The plugin requires OctaneRender™ Standalone Version installed and working properly as a prerequisite. To install OctaneRender™ Standalone Version please refer to the installation chapter of the OctaneRender™ User Manual. The plugin is compatible to the following LightWave versions:

OctaneRender™ for LightWave is available for the following operating systems :

It is also highly recommended that you use your on-board graphics or a second graphics card for the Windows display adapter and dedicate a more powerful CUDA-enabled card for rendering.
