Kernels

There are four types of Render Kernels in OctaneRender: Direct Lighting, Info Channels, PMC, and Path Tracing. The KernelsBy definition, this is the central or most important part of something. In Octane, the Kernels are the heart of the render engine. can be accessed by clicking on the Render Target node in the Settings Tab and choosing the Kernel type from the Kernel Node parameter under the rollout (Figure 1).

In general, ‘Direct Lighting’ is used for drafts (although can be used for final copy), ‘Path Tracing’ and ‘PMC’ are used for high quality rendering, and ‘Infochannel kernel’ is used for analytical output.
